Holy Trinity Hall Destroyed by Fire

Trinity's Youth Centre on fire (April 2012)

The Holy Trinity Hall at 2 Herbert Street, Dulwich Hill – best remembered as ‘Trinity’s Youth Centre’ –  was destroyed by fire in the early hours of Sunday morning, April 21st. Dave and Angela awoke at 4am to flames coming out of the roof and the street wires sparking.

Fortunately, no one was hurt. Neighbouring buildings also escaped any serious damage. Surprisingly, the second hall at the back was relatively untouched. The asbestos cladding would not burn.

The hall was the original church for our parish, built in the early 1870s, and became the hall when our current church was completed in 1915. It was used by various groups for important community activities, including:

after the fire

  • The Holy Trinity Youth Drop-In Centre
  • Father Dave’s Fight Club
  • Bible Study
  • Parents’ Group

Although the hall building and contents are covered by insurance, the parish must raise funds to support the numerous activities that we will need to relocate in the interim. We appreciate the overwhelming expressions of support that have come in since the news was announced on Sunday.
